Balance 005 is useful because it makes the post-2001 fragmentation argument audible without needing a genre-history lecture first. James Holden is still close enough to progressive house for the lineage to make sense, but the edges are already moving elsewhere.
Across the mix, progressive house rubs against techno, ambient and more abstract electronic material. The long-form instinct survives; the old centre does not.
