- Progressive
MMII lands in 2002 with John Digweed sounding fully separate from the warmer Renaissance mythology around his earlier career. It is a useful marker because the shift does not feel like a sudden reinvention; it feels like the darker, rhythm-led instincts that were already there becoming the whole argument.
Compared with the mid-90s partnership records, the palette is tougher and more breaks-influenced, with less interest in obvious melody and more emphasis on sustained pressure. That makes it a clean snapshot of progressive house at the point where the genre was becoming harder to describe with one label.
