His solo catalogue makes more sense if you follow the long route rather than skipping straight to Heaven Scent or the best-known Global Underground sleeve. Sydney, his radio work, the Jackpot-label detour and MMII show a DJ who trusted sequencing and atmosphere. He could make a relatively restrained record feel essential by placing it in exactly the right company.
