Global Underground: Nubreed 001 (CD1)

Anthony Pappa · 2000

The first volume of Global Underground's Nubreed series, March 2000: Anthony Pappa's dark, controlled CD1, with early remixes from James Holden and Timo Maas and a disc that sits right on the progressive–trance fault line. Nubreed began by handing a serious two-disc format to DJs who were not already the faces of the main city series. Pappa's opening disc shows exactly why that was worthwhile. The early Holden and Timo Maas connections put it at a moment when progressive house and trance shared plenty of territory, but the way the tracks are controlled matters as much as the recognisable names.
