Why 1995–2005 Was Progressive House's Golden Decade — and What Came Next

This is an argument, not a law of nature. For roughly ten years, clubs, residents, radio, mix CDs and record labels all happened to reward the same thing: music that took its time. That's what made the decade extraordinary, not the idea that every record from it was brilliant or that everything since has been rubbish. You had radio shows that rewarded two-hour programming, clubs built around residents, and mix-CD series where sequencing was the product. At the same time, not every long mix was inspired and not everything after 2005 was rubbish. The worthwhile question is which conditions let this particular sound thrive, and which began to change.
