Renaissance: The Mix Collection (CD1)

Sasha & John Digweed · 1994

Stick this on and you'll remember exactly why the mix CD stopped being a novelty. Three versions of Leftfield, ten minutes of Perfect Motion, and thirty-odd years later this 1994 Sasha & Digweed Renaissance disc still flows properly. This is one of the discs that helped teach listeners to experience a DJ mix as a complete work rather than a collection of individual singles. The repeated Leftfield appearances and the space given to Perfect Motion weren't accidents of a hurried compilation. It's a particularly good place to start if the whole Renaissance story has become tangled up with later mythology.
